Featured Branch:
Medford, Oregon

After the Apostolic Faith camp meeting of 1917, in Portland, Oregon, the Reverend Florence L. Crawford and a group of workers made an evangelistic tour through southern Oregon, holding meetings in churches and schoolhouses that were opened to them. Along the way, they distributed hundreds of pieces of Gospel literature, which generated much interest. Following that trip, it was determined that a church should be established in Medford, and Reverend Fred Hornshuh was appointed as the first pastor. Different store buildings were rented to serve as a place of worship until a church could be built.

Mr. Clarence Frost was converted to Christianity in Ashland, Oregon, on December 12, 1911. Mr. Frost had been reared in the Rogue River Valley, and had worked as a logger prior to his conversion. In May, 1913, he and his wife moved to Portland to affiliate with the Apostolic Faith, but Mr. Frost felt a longing in his heart to return to southern Oregon to witness to his relatives and old friends of the marvelous change that God had made in his life. This worked out a little differently than he had expected. Called by God to preach the Gospel, he was subsequently was ordained as a minister of the Apostolic Faith Church. He was appointed pastor of the Medford church in September, 1919, replacing Reverend Hornshuh.

Life took on a new meaning for the Medford church. The new pastor led teams of Gospel workers into the areas where Reverend Frost had lived and worked, holding meetings wherever a suitable place could be found. One of the first places that he visited was Selma, Oregon, where he was born and had lived during his growing up years. Many of his friends came to hear the former logger preach, knowing the sinful life of his youth. Some came to make fun of him, but the Spirit of God would convict them of their sins. They would pray, repent of their sins, be converted, and become laborers with Brother Frost in the harvest field for the souls of men.

Another of the more productive areas of Reverend Frost's labors for the Lord was the town of Dorris, in northern California. He had worked there for several seasons as logging foreman before his conversion. People in this area knew him very well, and they came willingly to hear him preach. A spiritual revival was the result, with sixty or more people being born into the Kingdom of Heaven, living Christian lives on earth to show the reality of their experience.

After the camp meeting of 1932, Reverend Frost's tenure as pastor of southern Oregon came to a temporary close. He and his family were transferred to Port Angeles, Washington, where he became pastor. In 1936, he was transferred to Klamath Falls, Oregon. The Medford congregation built a new church in 1938, needing more room and parking area. This was a beautiful structure on North 3rd and Central, one of the main thoroughfares of the city at that time. Reverend Frost was asked to return to Medford as pastor after dedication of that building.

Once again, the work of evangelism became the thrust of the Medford church, with ministers and workers covering a wide radius outside the city to hold Gospel services for any who would come to hear. Many people became born-again Christians as a result of these efforts. Often those who were converted would move to Medford in order to be close to the church and attend the services on a regular basis. Along with the people who were converted from the Medford area itself, the church has maintained a continual growth through the years. Reverend Frost retired from the pastorate in July, 1956, but the church that he served so faithfully for many years continues as a vibrant entity in this city. Subsequent pastors were Reverend Loyce Carver (1956-1965), Reverend Reuel Green (1965-1969), Reverend Norman Allen (1969-1982), Reverend John Friesen (1982-1992), Reverend Dwight Baltzell (1992-1993), Reverend Earl Phillips (1993-1999), Reverend Al Friesen (1999-2001). The current pastor is Reverend Tom Pricskett.

In 1985, the people of the church again felt the need to relocate. The 3rd and Central location was being crowded out by commercial enterprises. The members could visualize the advantages of a new, larger structure that would better accommodate the needs and activities of the church. A piece of property, 4.3 acres in size, was deeded to the church at East Jackson and Sunrise Streets. The old property sold, and soon construction was started on a new building. Fifteen months later, the edifice was completed, and the dedication service was held on Sunday, September 14, 1986. Today the Apostolic Faith Church in Medford is alive and progressing, thanking God for the many blessings that He has bestowed through the years.
