Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all. – 2 Corinthians 7:13
A few summers ago, the heat of the day seeped into every inch of space my house had to offer. I watched through the window as the sun beat continually on the walls outside, raising the temperature at least ten degrees each hour. By early afternoon, the heat had brought stifling conditions. The plants and some of the residents of my home, including myself, were wilting without air conditioning. About then my daughter came in. She threw open the screened windows and activated the large ceiling fan. A breeze, even though it was warm, started to blow through the house, giving immediate refreshment. I could breathe easier and I felt less weary. Even the plants, who were drooping in their containers seemed to stand taller. What a change the open windows and ceiling fan had made!
Throughout our lives, conditions in our home, at work, or at school can seem stifling or overheated. Problems arise, tempers flare, and blame is assigned, perhaps even to us. We wonder when the heat wave will pass so we can function with renewed strength and calmness of spirit. However, we can change these heated situations. We just need to open the windows of our heart to Jesus through prayer. When we do this, our call puts into service God’s ceiling fan! His refreshing breeze will flow through our hearts. The temperature around us will cool as the love and joy of God’s peaceful refreshing Spirit does its work within us, and we pass that refreshment on to others.
When the heat around you sends the temperature inside your heart to unbearable levels, throw open your windows and let God’s love flow through and refresh your spirit.
Dear Lord, today as the heat sizzles around us, we open our windows to receive Your refreshing stream of peace and happiness. As we bask in Your cooling touch and rejoice in Your love, we thank You for taking care of every heated situation in our life. How much we love You. Amen.
