And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. – Matthew 28:18
The streets were completely black, with only my headlights illuminating the shadowy structures I passed. Even the moon was hidden behind a dark bank of clouds. There was total silence as I drove the last few blocks to my home, and it struck me that something felt different in my neighborhood. When I pulled my car into the driveway and turned off my lights, total darkness surrounded me. Then I realized the missing piece was our power source. The electricity was off.
My younger daughters came running out to meet me with their flashlights waving. Displaying some degree of anxiety, they wanted to know how long the lights would be out and if they could all sleep together in the living room until the power was restored. After reassuring them that everything would be fine, we all sat down in the living room around a battery-operated light and began singing songs of praise to God. It was still quite dark around us, but through our voices of worship, we hooked on to a higher power source—“the light of the world” (John 8:12)—which will never be lost or in limited supply. The lights in our area did not come on for several hours, but the fear and anxiety brought on by the temporary darkness was quickly dispelled. The Lord gives twenty-four-hour service to those in need.
Is God’s power flowing through us today? We can tap into His power through prayer. As we seek the Lord daily, double checking that our spiritual “circuits” are intact, the light of His love will fill our lives. This is one service we never want to be without!
