Decisions, Decisions

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6

Some years ago, my attraction to pickup trucks drew me to consider buying one, in spite of the fact that I already had a functioning vehicle. After halfway making this decision on my own, the thought occurred to me that maybe this potential purchase was something to pray about. As Christians, it is always good to seek God’s guidance in our lives, but sometimes we can forget that and just proceed on our own. So I began to pray about this decision, and asked God what His will was.

At the time, with a good job and my finances in order, a monthly truck payment seemed feasible. As I prayed about this decision, however, the Lord indicated that it would be better to wait. So wait I did!

It did not take long at all to understand the Lord’s leading in this situation. Over the next few months, several unexpected expenses came up. I had money to cover those expenses, but only because of the absence of a truck payment. How thankful I was for God’s guidance! Then, within about a year, the Lord led me to marry a wonderful man and he owned—you guessed it—a pickup!

Many decisions come up in our daily lives, and sometimes we may think that God does not care about the little things. But if we trust Him with each decision that comes our way—big or small—He will lead us. The whole picture of our lives can be changed by the smallest of decisions. He has the master plan, and if we seek His will, His plan can unfold as He intended. And we will be so much better off!

Lord, I know that You want what is best for me. Help me to always remember to ask what You would have me do in each situation, so that my life can remain in Your perfect will.
