Don’t Worry, Be Happy!
Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God. – Psalm 146:5
After a telephone call to transfer a sizable amount of money from one bank account to another, I was able to write a large check. Later that day, I needed to go to the bank and debated about whether to go to the same branch I had called or to a different branch located near my other errands. Changing my route, I went to the branch I had called. At the teller’s window, I was surprised to see that the young man who had handled my phone transaction was assisting another teller. I had never seen him work in that capacity, and he is usually at his desk. After we greeted each other, he informed me that he had transferred the money, and mentioned rather questioningly that he had put it into my personal account. My shocked reaction told him that a change needed to be made, because I had just written a big check on the business account!
As I pondered what had happened, I thanked the Lord for His care in the day-to-day events of our lives. He sees the end from the beginning, and knew I needed help even before I knew there was a problem. He knew that my banker and I needed to connect again, so He put that young man and me at the same place at the same time in a rare encounter. It was not a chance meeting, but divine intervention that brought us together! How humbling, yet awe inspiring, to see the Creator of the universe act on my behalf! If we frail humans could only remember that!
It has been said that when we worry, we offend God. I have to wonder if He doesn’t agree with the old slogan, “Don’t worry. Be happy!” How exciting to think that, as our focus verse says, we can be happy just by putting our hope in Him. And at the same time, we make God happy by refusing to worry and allowing Him to handle things!
