Every Day of the Year

And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?” – Mark 4:21

Although Christmas had come and gone for another year, the little brown church in my neighborhood had not changed their sign-board message yet. I am sure they must have wanted those passing by to take in the thought-provoking words it projected. The board stated: “Don’t put Jesus away with the manger.” I was thrilled at the message portrayed, and was glad it had not been replaced yet.

None of us would intentionally “put Jesus away” with the manger and other holiday decorations. We would never consider not talking to Him or worshiping Him until the next Christmas season rolled around. Yet, how often do we fail to tell others about His gift of salvation, the peace He gives, and the hope of eternal life we have because of His death and resurrection? If we neglect to share these glorious truths with those who do not know Jesus, it is just like depositing our Savior in a closet and shutting the door.

Do we subconsciously put Jesus away with the manger? Let’s look into our heart’s closet today. Is Jesus covered up by other priorities or things we love in this world? If this appears to be the case, take Him out now! Give Him the honor that is due Him. We want the world to know every day of the year that Jesus is alive and that He is more than just a seasonal name brought out at the holidays. Jesus said that we are the light of the world, and that light was not meant to be hidden. Through our conversations, actions, and reactions, those around us should see His love shining out daily. He is the Savior of all mankind, and at every opportunity, we need to let the world know it!
