Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. – John 20:29
Many people seem to think, I cannot see God, therefore He does not exist. However, if you follow that kind of logic, you will come up with some strange conclusions about many things.
For instance, you might conclude that because you do not really see glass as you look through it, there is no such thing as a windshield! You may see streaks on a windshield, dirt, or even bugs, but are you aware of the windshield? Not really. Yet, as you drive down the highway, you can see its effects: rain splatters are visible without getting you wet; dirt and bugs appear before your eyes without touching you. And as for the wind it protects you from, just roll down your window if you doubt that! Yes, the windshield is very real.
If we have given our hearts to God, He is our spiritual windshield. He protects us from many things on the “highway” of life. Sometimes, as with dirt and bugs, we can see the mess from which we have been protected. At other times, such as with the wind, we may not even realize what we have missed, but that “windshield” is always there, unseen, but oh, so effective.
We can learn to trust God as our windshield. When life throws things our way, we do not need to flinch, but just remember that He is there as a barrier. Nothing can come through Him to us unless He allows it. He is unmoving and, unlike a physical windshield, unbreakable. So we can rest and trust in Him.
As you drive your car, ride the bus, or even look out your front window, remember: God is your windshield!
Lord, even though I cannot see You with my physical eyes, please help me to trust You with my heart. I know that whatever comes my way, You will be there to help me through it.
