Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? – Job 38:22
Gazing across the vast, unbroken whiteness that stretched for acres around our country home, I was awestruck. Where no footprint of human or animal had marred its beauty, the snow spoke eloquently of the purity belonging to a celestial realm.
Did God send such a sparkling white covering to remind us of the cleansing provided by His precious Son’s Blood, making us whiter than snow? Was it symbolic of the garments He provides for His redeemed? In a world so troubled, so defiled by humanity’s rebellion against its Creator, we rejoice in knowing that God has not left mankind without a means to connect with Himself. Like the lovely stillness of the earth blanketed with snow, His salvation gives the quietness of inner peace.
Maybe the snow was meant to illustrate how God’s care for every individual is as special as the unique characteristics of each tiny snowflake. Some of these wonders may only be revealed under a microscope, but God does not need any fine-tuned inventions to scrutinize the complex needs of the human heart. After all, we were created in His image!
Or perhaps the flawless white blanket was to give us an inkling of how truly marvelous Heaven must be! God longs to bring us to a Home that is perfect in its peace, its beauty, and its absolute purity. In Psalm 96:9, we are invited to worship the Lord in the “beauty of holiness.” How thankful we are that He has made this possible! He wants to make us more like Himself in heart purity.
The snow showered down by an unseen Hand is a welcome reminder that He is still here. Far above all the strife and uncertainty of this world, God remains the same as He has always been. One day He will put an end to everything that is ugly and tainted by sin’s degradation, but for now He has permitted us to view the treasures of the snow that we might enter into the deeper treasures of His love. He still reveals His goodness to those who desire to see it.
