I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. – Song of Solomon 2:1
Sharon is a rich tract of land lying between the hills of Judea and Samaria and the sea, holding some of the richest soil to be found in the world. The loveliness of the area is enhanced by beautiful flowers, mainly roses, tinting the entire hillside when viewed from a distance. The roses in this Eastern area are greatly prized because they are used in rose water.
In today’s culture, roses are considered a symbol of love. When given, they speak without words to the receiver. If roses are sent to a job site, co-workers from all over the building stop by to admire their beauty. When asked, many people will tell you that the rose is one of their favorite flowers.
In the Song of Solomon, the Lord is referred to as the “Rose of Sharon,” the premium of flowers. He is almighty, all-powerful, all loving, and all holy.
If you have ever received a rose, you know the feeling of joy this flower brings with its gorgeous bloom and fragrant scent. This is how the Lord is when He comes into our hearts. He is love and joy at its best!
When we gave our lives to Jesus, we began to know the truest happiness that can be attained. Dozens of roses may thrill the heart for a week or so when they are sent from one who loves you, but all too soon they lose their beauty and fade. Our precious Rose of Sharon, the Lord Jesus, grows lovelier each day. His beauty will never fade.
Dear Lord, Thank You for the beauty that You bring into my life each day. Help me to worship You in the beauty of holiness. Amen.
