The Lord hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. – Psalm 115:12
One morning in Sunday school, we were talking about miracles and I was reminded of a miracle that the Lord performed for me. I am a school teacher and our class was going on a field trip to ride jet boats on the Willamette River. The weather forecast was for heavy rain. Twenty-five third graders on the river in the pouring rain is not a particularly fun experience! So I prayed that we would not get wet. I do not know why I did not pray that it would not rain at all, but I was specific about it not raining on us.
When the school day began, it was raining hard, but right when we left our building to walk to the light rail train, it stopped raining. It did not rain as we walked, when we were on the boat, or while we were walking to go eat lunch. While we were eating lunch, the rain poured down again. Then, right when we were leaving that building to walk back to our school, it stopped. When we were in the school again, heavy rain started once more. The Lord had worked a miracle that made the day wonderful!
Of course, we know that God does not answer our every prayer about the weather. Sometimes He sends rain when we wish for sun, and sometimes He sends sun when we wish for rain. However, my experience illustrates that He is mindful of us and cares about the small things, as well as the big things, in our lives. Isn’t it like Him to remind us of this from time to time by working on our behalf?
Why not take a few minutes to reflect on ways the Lord has shown His concern about you? In our busy schedules, it can be easy not to notice when He resolves a little difficulty, smoothes an irritation, or works a special miracle specifically for us. Yet every blessing, no matter how big or small, should be a reminder that God is mindful of us.
