But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. – 1 Corinthians 2:9
Recently, my husband and I drove up into the mountains with our two children to play in the snow. Our two-year-old daughter had never seen snow except in pictures. She could not comprehend it really, but she was extremely excited.
It can take quite a while for a family with small children to leave the house. We never did find her missing glove, but at last we departed some time after noon. Even after we left home we had to stop for gas and for a recreational parking pass. Each time we stopped, our daughter grew more concerned that we would never get to the snow. She really wanted to see it!
As we drove up in elevation, I wondered if seeing the snow would meet or perhaps even exceed our daughter’s expectations. Sure enough, when we finally arrived, she was amazed, enchanted, and joyful. She was certainly not disappointed!
Sometimes in our spiritual journey, it may seem that it is taking a long time to arrive at our destination. We might be waiting for a particular answer to prayer or just waiting for Heaven! Whatever the case, unanticipated delays can feel agonizing. Perhaps we even want to complain, “When are we going to get there? I want to see it!”
The fulfillment of God’s promise to us may be around the next bend, or may be out a ways, but we can rejoice in knowing that someday we will see it. And when we do, what a thrill it will be! Just think how great our amazement will be when we observe for ourselves what the Lord has in store for us who love Him. It certainly will be worth the wait.
If our patience for God’s promise is starting to wear thin, take a moment to remember Who we are waiting on, and that one day our expectations will be exceeded beyond what we could possibly imagine!
