For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers. – 1 Peter 3:12
There is a young lady in our congregation who was saved recently and has been a bright spot in our church. She has attended our Sunday school for many years, but this past year she began coming to church services throughout the week. Her enthusiasm for the Gospel is heartwarming. She even comes to the prayer room before church services, and then stays to pray again after the meeting.
Young people usually respond well to challenges, so I enjoy introducing new Scripture verses to them, and I always start with Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” One particular Wednesday evening, this young lady prayed after the service for quite a while. After she arose, I told her that I wanted to show her something in the Bible. Turning to Psalm 34:15 and 1 Peter 3:12, I pointed out that the Scriptures were the same. I told her that the Apostle Peter must have known his Bible!
The next Sunday, she came over to me with her recently purchased Bible in hand, and showed me that she had put tabs at Psalm 34 and 1 Peter 3:12. She was so proud of the fact that she had learned something, and her excitement about the Bible was an encouragement to me. So I told her about the promise in Isaiah 26:3.
As newborn babes in Christ, there should be an insatiable hunger for God’s Word, that we may grow spiritually and be approved by God. One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to bring to our remembrance the things Christ has taught us through His Word. However, He cannot remind us of Scripture if we do not first study them and get them into our hearts.
I am grateful to my young friend for the reminder of what a treasure we have in the Bible! May it dwell richly in our hearts, and may we hide it there so we will not sin against the Lord.
