And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. – Luke 21:28
When I was a young boy, we vacationed in California. We were in Los Angeles and planned to drive to Sea World in San Diego. My parents decided we were going to leave at 6:30 in the morning. My father put us all to bed by 10:00 p.m. to make sure we weren’t too tired when we woke up.
The next morning, my dad woke up and looked at his watch. It said 6:00 a.m., so he got us out of bed to get ready. We had to brush our teeth and put on our clothes. We were so tired, but we couldn’t quite figure out why. We put everything we needed inside the car and then jumped in and started off. It was dark, and we were still very tired. Something seemed strange.
After driving a while, we came to a building that had a big clock on top of it. The clock said 1:00. My dad had looked at his watch upside down! We’d had only a couple hours of sleep. No wonder we were dead tired! When we saw the big clock, we all looked at Dad. We didn’t say a word. Dad turned around and drove back to the motel. We didn’t even bother to undress but just jumped into bed. To this day, I’ve never let my dad forget what happened, although he’d like to. He didn’t look at his watch right.
In a spiritual sense, we have to watch the clock. There are clocks all around us, and we must read them correctly. The Lord did not tell us the day or the hour of His return, but He told us the season. Jesus spoke the words of our focus verse after He described the world conditions at the time of His Second Coming. If you just look around, you’ll realize that we are in that season. Watch the clock! Be ready!
