You Won’t Be Sorry

But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. – Jeremiah 7:23

Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian...so many languages, but so little time! Languages have held a special interest for me throughout much of my life. I never took a foreign language class when I was in high school, but as I grew older I became more and more interested in languages, and tried to pick up bits and pieces wherever possible. At one point I considered pursuing this interest and taking a class just for fun. However, at that time the Lord spoke to my heart and asked me to put it aside. I did not know whether the situation would be temporary or permanent, but I obeyed.

Oh, the blessings I have received from that one simple act of obedience! Not long after that decision, I was asked to use what little talents and knowledge I had acquired in foreign languages to help in the Lord’s work. What an honor! And it did not stop there. From working in this area, I have been able to learn a little Spanish and Portuguese. The most recent blessing was that the Lord led the way for me to take a Portuguese class at a university. I can enjoy learning, and then enjoy applying my new knowledge in the Lord’s work. How long I will be able to continue taking the class, I do not know—it is in the Lord’s Hands.

As we draw closer to the Lord, sometimes He will ask us to make sacrifices in specific areas of our lives. It may be a small thing that we can easily give or it may be a lifelong dream that is painfully laid on the altar, but if we are willing to leave it with Him, how He will bless us for it! What I gave Him by obeying His simple request was so very small compared with what He has given in return. It is impossible to out give the Lord.

Is God calling something from your life today? Perhaps He is not asking you to give something up, but to take something on. Are you willing? If you obey, you won’t be sorry!
