Your Burden Bearer

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. – Psalm 55:22

Burden carrying is a fact of life, for we live in a world full of problems. Some people have to carry heavier burdens than others, and some seem to move from one difficult situation to the next, frustrated at every turn of the road. Often, we have little concept of the hidden burdens that others are carrying. A smiling face may be hiding a deeply aching heart. Indeed, the deepest and the heaviest burdens that men and women carry are usually not seen with the naked eye.

There was a time when I carried a lot of burdens by myself. I was so sad that I could not even pray as I needed to; I was too weighed down. It took the mercy of God to free me from that bondage. When I cried out to God for mercy, He solved my problems and gave me peace of mind. Through that, I learned that when we try to carry our burdens alone, we are, in essence, telling God that He is not capable of helping us and that we are better able to do it ourselves.

It is quite true that burdens exist. We all have unsaved relatives and friends, and when God gives us a burden for their souls, we need to pray. At other times, we ourselves face difficulties that burden our hearts. However, the Bible tells us, without mincing words, to “cast thy burden upon the Lord.” We need to give all our burdens to God through prayer and then watch Him work. In doing this, we are promised that God will hold us and keep us from falling.

Do you want peace of mind and rest for your soul? Then you need to ask yourself the question, “Who is my burden bearer?” What joy we will have when we can confidently trust life’s affairs to God!
