A Sermon Jesus Preached
Bible Text: Matthew 5:1-12; Luke 6:20-23
Wherever Jesus went, there were crowds of people who wanted to
hear Him preach. Sometimes Jesus talked to the people in their houses.
At other times Jesus went out on the hillsides and taught the people
who followed Him. One time, He spoke to the people while He was
sitting in a boat. Jesus loved talking to the people. He taught
them about God's love. He wanted them to know that they were special
to God.
One day, there was such a large crowd of people who wanted to see
Jesus, that He climbed to the top of a hill. When He had sat down,
His disciples and the people gathered near Him. They were eager
to hear what He was going to tell them. That was the day Jesus taught
the people how to be happy. They listened carefully as He spoke
these words.
"Happy are the people who are not full of pride, for the kingdom
of Heaven is theirs.
"Happy are those who are sad, for God will comfort them.
"Happy are the people who cry now, for they will soon laugh.
"Happy are those who make peace, for they will be called the
children of God.
"Happy are those who have a clean heart, for they will see
God.
"Rejoice and be very glad, even when people say bad things
about you just because you love Me. You will have a great reward
in Heaven."
The people were so glad they had heard Jesus' message that day.
His words helped them to know that Jesus loved them and would always
be with them.
When we read those words in the Bible, we can know that Jesus loves
us too. We will be happy and full of joy if we obey the words that
Jesus preached that day.
Whenever we are sad, we can remember that God will comfort us.
When we laugh, we can know that tears don't last forever. If our
hearts are clean, we will see God someday because we are His children.
And, because we are God's children, we can be friendly and peaceful
with everyone.
Each day, we can share God's love and happiness with our friends
and families. When they see that we are happy people, they will
know it is good to belong to God's family.
