Messy Jessie

When I was a kid I usually had a messy room. Sometimes people would call me "Messy Jessie" when I didn't clean up after myself. I left dolls, Legos, and clothes all over my bedroom floor or my playroom. Every once in a while I invited a special friend over to my house to visit. But my room was so messy I was embarrassed that my friend would see it like that. So I would clean my room as quickly as I could before my friend arrived. I really wanted my room to look nice for my friend.

There is a story in the Bible about a woman named Martha who had a special friend who came to her house. She also wanted her home to look clean to impress her guest. That special guest was Jesus! When Jesus arrived at her house, Martha was so busy cleaning and cooking; she didn't even visit with Jesus! But Mary, Martha's sister, did visit with Jesus. She wanted to listen to everything He had to say, and to learn as much as she could from this wonderful Teacher. Martha was upset with her sister because she wanted Mary to help clean and cook. But Jesus told Martha that she was worried and upset about the food and house, but those things didn't matter. Mary had chosen the most important thing to do!

Martha and I had something in common, we both wanted to impress our special guest. But Martha got so caught up in how things looked, she didn't stop to spend time with her guest. So next time Jesus begins talking to you, make sure you stop and visit for a while. Listen and learn everything you can from the wonderful Teacher!
