April 1-5, 2009 The Apostolic Faith Church in Aiken, South Carolina, was blessed by revival meetings in April. The very appropriate theme was “Revival Time in 2009,” and many were inspired to attend the meetings and get their souls revived. It was a blessing to have Reverend Eugene Segres, the pastor of one of our churches in Brooklyn, New York, as the guest speaker. His messages were rousing from the first day, as he presented the question, “What is your purpose?” He brought out that the answer should be for the congregation to follow the “plan of Jesus” for their lives. He used the illustration of Zacchaeus, whose purpose was to see Jesus and follow God’s plan for his life, even though he was a rich man and could have had anything in the world he desired. On the other hand, the woman with the issue of blood may have attempted to fix her problem by going to different physicians, but in the end she realized that the only solution was to turn to Jesus. Reverend Segres encouraged the congregation to follow God’s plan rather than their own will. In one of his messages, Reverend Segres asked the congregation if they had any “spiritual meat.” He brought out that just as it is important for a baby to progress from milk to meat in order to be nurtured and to grow, Christians will be unable to obtain the much-needed nutrition that is essential for spiritual survival if they do not partake of the “meat” of God’s Word. The revival services certainly accomplished what God intended them to accomplish. Many testimonials were given from those who had been truly touched. Dennis Segres opened the Sunday morning service by thanking God for recent traveling mercies, and for God’s direction in helping him find a place to worship while he was away from his home church. As he led the congregational singing, he said that worshiping the Lord helps relieve any burden that comes along. Lillie Mae Segres, visiting from Kingstree, South Carolina, sang “Joy in the Lord,” and Luther Scott, visiting from Columbia, South Carolina, sang a beautiful rendition of “Glory, Glory Hallelujah.” The song service concluded with Justin Segres singing a true testimonial entitled “Give Me a Little More Time to Pray.” Vickie Segres shared her testimony of victory in her twenty-six years of marriage and Shanna Segres told of how God revived her soul and brought her back to the church after a time away. Gertie Segres, visiting from Brooklyn, gave a moving testimony of God’s help in keeping her steadfast and unmovable in the Gospel. Hasco McAllister also told of how he has been healed from cancer and is able to say that there was no stumbling along the way as he put his trust in God. Priscilla Segres sang a stirring song called “Stand,” and Nathaniel Pressley, visiting from Kingstree, beautifully sang “Draw Me Nearer,” with the thought that in order to draw nearer to God, one must be able to stand against the adversary of this world. Reverend Segres preached his final sermon of the special meetings on “Let God Be God.” The revival services concluded with a beautiful fellowship dinner. The church members in Aiken are thankful for all who were able to attend this wonderful event. They are already looking forward to next year’s special meetings in Aiken, as well as those in other branch churches throughout the coming year. |
