Father's Day Service
The Sunday morning meeting on Father’s Day began with the orchestra playing a beautiful “Canon on ‘The Love of God’” and “Now Unto the King Eternal.” The choir then sang “Mighty King.” During congregational singing, earthly fathers were remembered in the hymn “Faith of Our Fathers,” and then the heavenly Father was remembered in “How Great Thou Art.”
After prayer, Darrel Lee asked all the fathers in the room to stand and be acknowledged, beginning with the only great-great-grandfather in attendance, David Lesher (pictured above, right). Next the great-grandfathers stood, then grandfathers and fathers, and all were recognized with applause.
For the middle special, Michael and Ann McCarville were joined by their son, Hunter, in singing “Think About His Love.” Bob Downey read Luke 11:1-12, and then Peter Moberg played guitar and sang “This Is My Father’s World.”
Brother Darrel began his message by reading Luke 11:13, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” He said that when a person is born again, he is adopted as a child of God. As a good Father, God will correct His children when it is needed and He will also give them good things. That is not to say that God gives whatever His children ask; His children do not always know what is best for them. For this reason, it is best to focus on giving to God, and letting Him decide what is best to give us, knowing He will not hesitate to give it.
