Father's Day Service
The Sunday morning service on Father’s Day began with the orchestra playing “This Is My Father’s World,” and then a men’s choir sang “Let the Flame Burn Brighter” with Michael McCarville as soloist. Later the Moberg family, including Peter, Laura, Julia, and Eli sang “The Father’s Song,” with Claire accompanying on the clarinet. The lyrics stated, “The Father's song, The Father's love; You sung it over me and for eternity; It's written on my heart.” As they sang, several verses related to God’s love for His children were displayed, including Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
A special testimony was given by Gary Wolfe, who related that being born with a terrible disease resulted in him needing five surgeries by the age of three, yet he was no better for it. Though the doctors could not help him, one day God answered prayer and miraculously healed him. Later, as a teenager, he answered God’s call to serve Him, and when it was time to choose a career, he followed God’s leading to work full time at the church office. Brother Gary said he is thankful to have had the faithful examples of his father and grandfathers, and for the hoping of seeing them again someday in Heaven.
For the last special, Chris Luka sang “Sweet Beulah Land” with his two oldest children, Julianne and Marcus (pictured above). Dave Lambert gave the morning message, reading several verses including Romans 8:15, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Brother Dave noted that although not everyone is called to be a father, everyone is called to be a child of God, the Heavenly Father. God longs to have a loving relationship with each person, and as a good Father He has promised to love His children, to protect and provide for them, and to never leave or forsake them. He encouraged the congregation not to reject the Father, but to embrace His offer of love.
