Focusing on the Lord in the Dominican Republic

From the Superintendent's DESK

Tim and Lisa DeBusk continued this past weekend with their visit to the saints in the Dominican Republic. They reported that on Saturday a pastor’s meeting was held, and though many had to travel two or more hours to attend, about seventy-five came to the meeting. Afterwards, lunch was served, and everyone enjoyed a time of fellowship before returning to their various church locations.

The DeBusks attended Sunday services at our La Romana headquarters church where Hector Guillamo Perez is the pastor. When they arrived, Sunday school was already in session with the children reciting memory verses and singing.

The morning service began with the congregation singing several hymns including “It Is Well with My Soul” and “Tell It to Jesus.” The music specials throughout the service were provided by the youth choir. One particularly moving number was “Seek Ye First.” Several testimonies were given before the message, and the service closed with many going to the altars to pray. Afterward, a delicious lunch of barbecued chicken, rice, and steamed vegetables was provided for everyone.

On Monday morning over two thousand men, women, and children representing our churches throughout the Dominican Republic met in Boca Chica for a “Ladies’ Assembly.” This event is held each year to encourage women to focus on the Lord. The six-hour service, which began at 9:00 a.m., included congregational singing, testimonies, and guest speakers. Also, a women’s choir from each congregation sang while wearing matching scarves to represent their locations.

In honor of the senior pastors’ wives, a group of young ladies wearing white outfits and hats marched at attention, and then each wife was presented with a bouquet of flowers. Following the last special and concluding sermon, the altar call was given and at least one claimed salvation!

The DeBusks write that it has been such a joy to be with all the saints in the Dominican Republic. They are scheduled to return home tomorrow.
