From Earth’s Lowest Point at the Dead Sea to Spectacular Views at Haifa

February 20, 2016

From the Superintendent's DESK

Friday, we boarded the tour bus and drove an hour and a half to the Judean Wilderness, a harsh landscape that John the Baptist made his destination. En-route, we observed several different shepherds herding their flocks through the rugged desert terrain. We floated in the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on earth, and visited the Qumran community, the discovery place of the Dead Sea scrolls.

After lunch we drove to Jericho and rode a gondola...

From the Superintendent's DESK

We have received a final report of the Chile Camp Meeting. This first account is from Brother Dial who wrote of the ordinance and water baptismal services on Saturday:

At breakfast Saturday everyone was talking about how the week had flown by, but this second-to-the-last day went the fastest yet! Wrapping up the meal, we quickly walked over to the church site and, as usual, found our saints already busily putting things in order for the first...

Retracing the Nativity Story

February 18, 2016

From the Superintendent's DESK

Our group began this day with prayer at 6 a.m. and breakfast 7 a.m. Then we set out to retrace the path of the Nativity Story as given in the Book of Luke.

Our first stop was the village of Ein Karem, traditionally held to be the hometown of Zacharias and Elisabeth, the parents of John the Baptist. Located just six miles southwest of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, it would have been less than a day's commute...

Pilgrims in the Promised Land

February 17, 2016

From the Superintendent's DESK

After three flights and one long layover, my son, Randy, and I arrived in Israel Tuesday evening. We were met at the airport by our tour guide from Nazareth, along with Bayo and Josephine Adeniran and James and Martell Olaleye of Nigeria. We were each presented with a bouquet of roses as well as African outfits to help us blend in with the forty-five Nigerian “pilgrims to the promised land” who would join us later.

I had brought...

As the camp meeting in Chile neared the last day, Sister Yvonne sent this report:

How can it be that a week, which seemed to stretch out in front of us this past Sunday, is suddenly over? This was what we woke up to on Friday: the last Bible teaching and the last evening evangelical service. We will miss our new friends when we leave. The U.S. contingency has felt the love...

As the camp meeting in Chile continued on Thursday, two of the highlights were the heartfelt music and the testimonies from recent converts. Sister Carrie sent this report of the services:

This morning’s Bible teaching opened with a time of prayer followed by the now familiar blended tones of guitars, mandolins, and singers. And as the prayer time had been blessed, so was the opening music.

The...

From the Superintendent's DESK

The saints in Chile shared a wonderful time in the Lord Wednesday. Sister Yvonne sent this report of the day’s events:

Today began with a challenge. Instead of meeting for a Bible teaching, we met at 10:00 a.m. to evangelize the town of Chimbarongo. After a time of prayer, we divided into five teams, grabbed a stack of tracts, and set out in different directions across town. My team consisted of the...

We arrived at the church site early and found the saints already busy. The musicians were tuning their instruments, kitchen workers were preparing the afternoon meal, and others were setting up chairs for the morning teaching.

Our first Bible teaching opened with the congregation singing several hymns. This was followed by prayer and...

February 12, 2016

From the Superintendent's DESK

Our team in Chile sends this report of Monday’s service written by Brother Duane:

Monday, after a much needed rest during the day, we enjoyed an evening of music. The focus was on participation, and the spirit was one of enthusiasm. Three countries were represented: Argentina, Chile, and the United States. During the program, we heard from individuals, families, ensembles, and large choirs. Congregational singing was also interspersed throughout,...
