Visiting the Saints in the Dominican Republic
From the Superintendent's DESK
Debbie and I are in the Dominican Republic, traveling with Tim DeBusk, Director of Caribbean Work, and his wife, Lisa. We plan to visit several of our churches, meeting with the ministers and saints here, before returning home Friday evening, October 6.
On Sunday morning, we had the privilege to attend our Miramar, San Pedro de Macoris, church pastored by Edwin Gil Fillary who is the oldest serving pastor in the Dominican and a board member. When we arrived, Sunday school was in session and the classrooms were full. By the looks on the students’ faces, everyone was having a wonderful time!
For the morning meeting, special music was provided throughout the service, and we enjoyed several victorious testimonies. After the message, many knelt in prayer.
In the evening, we were able to attend the Residencial church pastored by Heriberto Martinez. It is one of our newer churches in La Romana. We were pleased to see many young people in the service, including young families. Brother Heriberto led the congregational singing, which included many hymns, and the saints sang with enthusiasm. Several testimonies were given, and before the message, a mixed trio sang in English, “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.”
It was a wonderful Sunday spent with the saints in the Dominican.
Monday morning, we had the opportunity to visit one of three schools owned and operated by the Apostolic Faith in the Dominican Republic. It was at the location of our Miramar church in San Pedro de Macoris. The school offers classes for grades preschool through high school, and has an enrollment of over five hundred students.
We took a tour of the building, starting at the office and continuing to the classrooms, which were all filled to capacity. As we entered each class, we were greeted with big smiles and a very enthusiastic welcome! All of the students looked so nice in their navy blue and white uniforms. We were very impressed with the teachers as well, and had a great time.
Lord willing, we will visit another church this evening. Please keep the saints here in your prayers.
