Jesus, Our Best Friend
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. – Proverbs 17:17
In our everyday lives we have many types of friends. Some are closer than others, some we wish we could visit more often, and some we seldom see. We have these relationships because God created us as social beings who desire to have companionship and to share our lives with others. We spend time with, ask advice from, give advice to, and share funny stories with our friends. And yet even our closest friendships have limitations. No matter how close we become with a friend or how many friends we have, our desire for companionship cannot be filled completely by other people.
Before I gave my heart to Jesus, I was extremely lonely. I used to go to theaters or shopping just to be doing something, but I could never get away from the emptiness I felt inside. Then, when Jesus saved me, He became my Best Friend. He gave me direction and a purpose for living, and filled the void of loneliness. In my most trying times, He has given peace, and when no one seemed to care, He did.
Can you imagine that the God of Heaven and the universe wants to be our friend? God was thinking of us before we existed, and He wants to have fellowship with us every day! He is the Friend who is never too busy to spend time with us, and is interested in every aspect of our lives. If you are lonely today, Jesus is the answer. He sees the heart that is broken and He wants to repair it, and He sees the one who is weary and He wants to give rest. Reach out to Him and He will fill the void in your heart. We need never be lonely again, because He has promised to always be with us.
Jesus, thank You for being my Friend. Help me this day to reach out to those who do not know You, and encourage them to have You as their best Friend, that they might know the peace and contentment that only You can give. Amen.
