From the Superintendent's DESK
This past Sunday, September 24, John and Rodica Musgrave attended services in Smith Bay, St. Thomas, at the headquarters church for our Eastern Caribbean work. Over the next week, they expect to visit more of our island churches, accompanied by Michael Anthony, the Smith Bay Pastor and Eastern Caribbean District Superintendent.
The Sunday morning service began with the choir singing “Praise Him, Praise Him.” Then Nola Stuart directed the congregation of about seventy in singing such songs as “I Love You Lord” and “When We See Jesus.” She also offered the congregational prayer before leading everyone in reading Matthew 11:25-30.
The announcements were given by Brother Michael who included a “tip of the week,” saying, “Your feet and hands travel where your mind has already gone.” For the last special before the sermon, a trio sang “It’s Amazing.” Then the message was preached from Matthew 11:1-6, focusing on believing the works of Christ, which have been seen and heard by those present. At the close, there was a good response to the invitation to pray.
In the evening service, the regular attendees wore “Sunday evening chill” t-shirts and the Musgraves wore the St. Thomas t-shirts they had been given upon arrival. Sylvia Thomas led everyone in singing “The Solid Rock,” “Sweet Hour of Prayer,” and “Jesus Saves” and then gave the opening prayer. The Musgraves shared their testimonies and so did seven others, including Courtney Daniel who was celebrating his 75th birthday. Earlier in the day, many attended a birthday party for him. Brother John said it had been a blessing to see this pillar of the church being honored by family, friends, and the congregation.
William Thomas sang the last special, “Come Ye Disconsolate,” before Delroy Gifft preached. With an initial text from Psalm 119:133, his message was titled “Order My Steps.” Using examples like the plans for Noah’s Ark and the Ark of the Covenant, he illustrated that God has an order, design, and plan for every life. All were encouraged to follow through on the plans God has for their lives, and at the altar call, everyone went to prayer.
As the Musgraves left St. Thomas accompanied by Brother Michael, they commented that the weather had been hot and muggy, but the views were beautiful and the people were very friendly and welcoming. They enjoyed their short visit. On Monday, they went to Tortola and had the opportunity to tour three church locations there. Today, they are scheduled to travel early to St. Maarten. Let’s pray that God will order every step of this trip, granting good fellowship, inspiring many to pray, and pouring out His blessings.
