From the Superintendent's DESK
Following the Western Europe Camp Meeting and before the dedication in Aberdeen, Scotland, my family and I had the opportunity to visit three of our branch locations. We first went to Cranfield in England, and then Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland. Our travels throughout these past few weeks have been a reminder that we are part of an amazing family of God.
Cranfield
For the first visit, we were accompanied by Mark Mfandarahwa, Western Europe District Superintendent, his wife, Marble, their two children, and David Ojo of Bexley, England.
As we arrived at the Cranfield church, the saints were gathered outside singing, “You are welcome in the Name of the Lord.” It was a pleasant surprise to see so many, as our visit was a loosely planned stopover on our way to London. We later learned that some of the saints had been on their way home from the recent camp meeting and went straight to the church. Others who were already in the area, came on short notice.
After extending greetings on behalf of the world headquarters, I briefly encouraged the congregation to be united and prayerful and they strive to reach souls. A prayer was offered that this work, which began as an online Bible study in 2022, will continue to grow, spreading to new areas. Also, that God would bless the work throughout the world, giving an increase in souls.
Then we were given a tour of the building, which has historical significance—it was built in 1880 as a Wesleyan chapel. God provided it to our people as an answer to prayer, and it was purchased, remodeled, and dedicated last year. Fungai Mangere, who is the pastor and saw the congregation through this period, expressed appreciation for God’s blessings and for our visit. Before we left, there was time for light refreshments, photographs, and good fellowship.
Glasgow
Our next visit was to our congregation in Glasgow where Tunbosun Oyedokun is the leader. Upon arrival in Scotland, we were met at the airport by John Anthony and his wife, Sade, who took us to their home, where a warm reception awaited. We were so blessed to be met outside the residence by saints who had gathered from different parts of the city. The group sang a welcome song, and we exchanged greetings. It was a joyous occasion for everyone.
We were joined by Matthew Ibukun, who pioneered the work at Glasgow in 2016, before making a trip to see the Travelodge Glasgow Central, where the group currently holds their Sunday services.
Later in the evening, we held a workers’ meeting with twenty-two in attendance. To begin, I expressed profound gratitude for everyone’s efforts in advancing the Gospel in this city and Scotland at large. Then the group received several exhortations, including to renew their commitments to God, dedicating their lives even more fully to the Gospel. Also, to employ diverse evangelism strategies to reach people from various backgrounds. And lastly, to work in unity. We closed with prayer, asking God to ignite a spark in Glasgow for revival.
Edinburgh
Our last visit was to the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, where we have a group that formed in November of 2017. We were received by Deborah Olorunsaiye who leads the group and a few others. After introductions and greetings, we moved to the venue where the services are currently held. Other members joined us there, and we had a beautiful time of fellowship. I encouraged the congregation to keep up the good work with each contributing to the furtherance of the Gospel. Then we discussed ways of evangelizing the area more effectively, including holding children’s church services. We concluded our time together with prayer.
My family and I are still traveling and are now attending another camp meeting. We have been enjoying getting to know the saints in different locations and can report that indeed, we are part of a wonderful family of God. As you keep us in your prayers for traveling mercies, please continue to pray for your fellow laborers around the world.
