How many times have you had the privilege to sing the beautiful song, “The Family of God”? Many of us have had decades of the blessing of singing it at our camp meetings and local churches. It reminds us that we are not alone in our Christian walks but are supported by many others who share our faith and love.
Recently, that song has taken on an even deeper meaning as my wife, Tolu, and I had the sacred privilege of representing the Apostolic Faith headquarters at several special events around the world. A week after the camp meeting in Portland, we were in Mid-Wales for the Western Europe camp meeting. We experienced such a wonderful time of prayer and fellowship there. From Wales we traveled to London and visited some of our saints who could not attend the camp meeting. We then went to Scotland and enjoyed fellowship with our saints in Glasgow and Edinburgh, visiting the buildings where they worship. After that, we were driven to Aberdeen for the dedication of our first church building in Scotland. What a blessed dedication it was, as many of us in attendance re-dedicated our lives to God.
From Scotland, we flew to Nigeria to join the West and Central Africa (WECA) camp meeting, which also marked the 80th anniversary of our work in WECA and in Africa generally. One highlight there was the rapid completion of the new tabernacle roof. Just a few days before camp started, completing the roofing project was deemed impossible by human standards. However, we witnessed firsthand another beauty of the family of God: saints around the world united in prayer for the roof to be finished so the camp meeting could be held under it. What a sight it was to behold as saints worked day and night to accomplish the task! We were full of joy and thanks to God as we gathered under the new roof throughout the camp meeting.
In September, Tolu and I attended our church dedication in Headingley, Canada. Our branch churches across Canada came together to support and finance the construction of the new building, as well as its dedication. It was yet another evidence of being part of a wonderful church family. Although I could not attend the dedications in the Dominican Republic and Japan, we heard similar reports from those locations of the love and unity that characterize our work globally. (Read more about all these events here and here.)
Upon returning home, I was simply overwhelmed by everything I had experienced. It left an indelible mark on me. Frequently, I find myself singing that beautiful song, “I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God.” In a world that is often plagued by division, our church stands as a beacon of unity, transcending borders, languages, and cultures. Though we are a tapestry of diverse people, we are united in our experience of salvation, our desire to live a holy life, and our determination to be faithful to the end. We are not alone in our corners of the world, but we are part of something bigger—the wonderful family of God!
As you read the articles in this magazine, may you have a renewed commitment to continue to be a part of this family. And if you are not yet part of it, we hope you will be inspired to join.
