On a crisp, sunny December afternoon, the senior saints of the Portland congregation made their way to the Fellowship Lodge for the annual Christmas luncheon, hosted by Dave and Rosie Lambert. The Lodge was decorated with sparkling trees, ribbon-wrapped wreaths, and candles, and the festive spirit was enhanced by carols played on the piano by Kristi Riler.
At each place setting was a tumbler of sparkling cider, filled with an extra-large ice cube that contained a small bouquet of rosemary and cranberries. The first course served was a cheese fondue with assorted breads for dipping. The main dish was Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy, pickled red cabbage, carrots, and a cucumber salad. Dessert was apple strudel with ice cream. Each element was prepared by Rod Tarpo and his kitchen crew and was absolutely delicious.
During the event, there were drawings for four door prizes, which were gift baskets containing cozy items such as a blanket, cranberry almond oatmeal, Oregon jam, and a nightlight. The winners were Larry Buckland, Bob Downey, Glenda Andersen, and Janet Trotter. After the meal, Brother Dave read the Christmas story from the Book of Matthew, and then a letter from Sola Adesope, thanking the Gospel veterans for their years of faithful service.
All in attendance enjoyed the beautiful setting and decorations, the delicious food, and the time of fellowship and encouragement.
