Youth Focus this month was held on the evening of Saturday, October 26. As usual, it was a ton of fun! It is such a blessing to have a thriving youth group.
Each month, the meals are made possible by Karla Calhoun and her team who sacrifice hours to put together a delicious menu. This time around, the group enjoyed crispy fried chicken, flaky fried fish, sweet potato fries, parmesan peas, and for dessert, a decadent apple pie cheesecake.
After eating, Chris and Jessica Oilar set up a fan-favorite game of "cups." It works like this: two people stand facing each other, and when they hear the word “go,” they race to grab the cup. Whoever grabs it first advances to the next round, continuing until there is one winner. Joseph Buliga took the win on this occasion.
After the game, Chris Luka led some joyful songs like “Rise Up, Lazarus,” “How Great Is Our God,” and a few others. Then the group played another game. This time, the guys and girls lined up separately on either side of the lodge. The two people at the front of the lines were given one word and raced to guess the Bible character who corresponded to that word. The guys were ahead by ten points, however, it was decided that the the last question was worth eleven points, and the gals ended up winning the whole thing!
To close the evening, Brother Erik gave a short message using Ephesians 6:11-13 as his text. He spoke about standing against the wiles of the devil and not wrestling with flesh and blood, explaining that young people have to stand firm even when others and the devil are trying to get them down. The devil is not omniscient like God; God is infinitely more powerful than the devil—beyond comparison! Christians may face trials such as loneliness, depression, anxiety, and difficult situations, but God can help through them all.
Overall, Youth Focus was a great evening filled with good food, fun games, praising God, and learning more about how to live for Him.
