2025 Welcome Lunch

On January 5, after the Sunday morning service, the Portland congregation shared a lunch in the Fellowship Lodge, welcoming Brother Sola and Sister Tolu Adesope, along with their son Josiah. Their daughters, Florence and Felicia, were able to be part of the celebration before going back to their respective schools for winter terms.

A festive balloon arch and flower arrangement provided an eye-catching focal point as the Adesopes and other diners came inside the front doors of the Lodge. A delicious Lebanese lunch was served, which included yellow rice, grilled chicken, a kofta (spiced ground beef) kebab, pita bread, and a tomato and cucumber salad. The essential accompaniments were hummus, tzatziki, and garlic paste. The meal was flavorful, fresh, and enthusiastically received.

As the group was finishing the lunch, Dave Lambert introduced each of the Adesopes, and then Brother Sola gave a short talk and PowerPoint presentation giving a challenge for the first quarter of 2025. Each person was encouraged to invite someone to church. Brother Sola showed statistics indicating that while a small number of people begin coming to a church on their own initiative, a vast majority start attending because they are invited by friends or family. He showed a sample of an e-vite currently being designed for convenient online outreach and inspired those present to work toward winning the city of Portland for the Lord!

After a dessert of chocolate cake, the Adesopes stood near the exit and shook hands and chatted with everyone as they exited. The Portland congregation was happy to spend some time getting to know the Adesopes, and inspired to participate in the suggested outreach effort in the weeks ahead.
