2024 Father's Day Service

The Father’s Day service began with the orchestra paying tribute to our Heavenly Father by playing “This Is My Father’s World” and “Thou Art Worthy.” Then the choir joined to sing “All Praise to You, Almighty King,” which extols God for His vast power that created the universe, and His immense love that sent His only Son to redeem mankind. The congregational singing continued the same theme with such songs as “To God Be the Glory” and “How Great Thou Art.” Then Tom Pricskett led the opening prayer.

During his announcements, Pastor Dave Lambert wished all the dads present a happy Father's Day. Then he said that the first special would be a father/son trio of Chris, Marcus, and Carter Luka singing “O, I Want to Know You More.” As one would expect from a father and his sons, their voices blended beautifully!

The Scripture reading was given by Darrel Lee. He read Matthew 18:1-6, which recounts the time when Jesus told the disciples, “Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (verses3-4).

For the last special, Peter and Julia Moberg sang a father/daughter duet of "Going Home" and "Abide with Me.” Again, the harmony was perfect as they sang out, "Going home, oh I’m going home; there’s nothing to hold me here. I’ve caught a glimpse of that heavenly land; praise God, I’m going home!”

For the sermon, Brother Dave began by reading 1 John 3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” He said that God’s greatest desire is to be able to call us His children, and for us to call Him Father. He stated that becoming a child of God requires that we follow Jesus’ instruction to “become as little children.” This does not mean being childish, but being childlike—humble and fully trusting in God. Brother Dave encouraged all who did not know God as their Father to call on Him for help right away, saying that God does not have any favorite children and He will hear and answer every honest prayer.
